Leadership 2020: Daimler’s Cultural Transformation

How can giants of the “Old Economy” survive the Fourth Industrial Revolution – and thrive in the future?
Leading automotive manufacturer Daimler is bracing for change by proactively creating it, transforming itself and its industry from the inside out, and understanding transformation as culture change. The initiative is called Leadership 2020, and the changes are already having impact.
To mobilize its global workforce, Daimler’s management team hosted over 1,200 employees from all parts of the world for its Leadership2020 Summit in Frankfurt: a two-day highly interactive and immersive experience that “prototyped” the new Daimler.
Tim was one of the guest speakers, and in his talk he argued that “more than ever those who are smart AND romantic, those who can weave together powerful data engines and technology with personality, aura, and humanity will thrive amidst all the optimizers and maximizers.” Daimler, he said, had the opportunity to embrace and lead in this new romantic era.
